As a fellow procrastinator (and almost certain ADHD-haver) I’ve found the ICNU framework useful: is the task at hand

Interesting | Challenging | Novel | Urgent

and, if not, find ways to dial one or more of these up.

Thank JC! I’m a procrastinating queen and thrive on pressure however I think it stresses my team out no end but I just function better by leaving things until I absolutely have to do them!

The idea of artificially creating pressure when there isn’t much is interesting as I too am comfortably uncomfortable in my role and so keen to hit the eject button but then I don’t feel the pressure. It’s like you literally have to just stop doing it and then you will make a plan, build the parachute after you jump.

Loving the posts 👏🏼

Hi Jonathan, what is the thing that motivates you always to think of your next business instead of just relax and enjoy your current success and spare time?

As someone who was diagnosed (officially) with ADHD at 39, I can say you most likely do have it. I suspected something was up with me for most of my life, but getting a diagnosis has been so helpful! Anyway, I can definitely relate. I used to be a newspaper reporter. Nothing like the pressure of those deadlines to spark productivity for me!

Also, Jonathan, I wanted to reach out to you on something. I just launched a Substack publication called "Public Perception," where I help business owners and other professionals to more effectively communicate with the public. I'm looking for some other Substack writers to cross-collaborate with, and that's how I found How to Business (love the name, by the way). I thought our target audiences might complement one another.

Would you be open to a possible guest post from me? I'm still growing my audience because my publication just launched, but once I've developed it more, I'm happy to publish a guest post from you, too. Here's a little on my background: I'm a former journalist (daily newspaper reporter, to be exact) who's now been a professional writer, editor, and communications consultant for more than 15 years. I can give you more information over email if you'd like.

Please email me at shari.lopatin@gmail.com if you're open to the guest post idea. Thanks for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I like the idea of manufacturing pressure.

It sounded silly to most of the people I shared this idea with, but for me, stickers with tasks for each one work great as pressure to do something.

Something inside me says you need to remove all of them from your desk, which means you've planned this, so let's do it.

This is great for everyday tasks.

Manufacturing a little pressure may work for some people. Especially at the beginning of their pressure training :)

The problem might be that most people would stay on this level too long and they will not develop bigger pressure that is required to move forward.
