I truly adore your honesty. It’s so helpful to hear the reality of leading a team you’ve built and are proud of, yet still find challenging. It’s almost reassuring to know that even with a great team, things aren’t always smooth. I look forward to seeing how you continue to work through it.
You’ve mentioned using pricing as a motivator to make amazing things, and it’s cool to see you putting that into practice. Thanks for the episode—I do hope you feel better and have an amazing event!
Just thought of this. Maybe it’s helpful. I help lead an engineering team and we were having trouble with our team not having “perfect” construction drawings. Yes, we still had to review them ourselves, we reviewed in front of them so they could see what we’re catching, we told them what kind of things we’re looking for, instated peer checks, etc. But something that had an unexpected bump in quality was having them pause and review it once more before they called it done and sent it out to the next person (peer or us).
I also wonder if there’s something in the event planning or hotel industries that may help.
Again, very interested to hear about your continued efforts here.
I’m curious what your opinion is with principles based leadership. Do you have or use “beliefs” or “values” internally at AJS? As someone with my own unique obsessions not always related to work, relying on organizational dogma has helped me succeed and calm the fuck down in different ways.
Hey Johnathan, sorry to hear you are having difficulty with GERD, it sounds aweful. Unfortunatly it is chronic, as in when you stop taking the medication the symptoms reappear. Just sharing this article about your options from a medical centre here in Barcelona (article is in english). Hopefully there is a solution or information there to help you and options to discuss with your doctor.
TLDR (Copy and pasted from article, not my advice and please read article for yourself) :
1. If reflux appear sporadically, it will be sufficient to take antacids when burning appears (eg Almax, Gelodrox, Bemolan, etc.).
2.When the symptoms are more frequent it is preferable to reduce the amount of acid that is produced in the stomach. For this there are many drugs, some less potent (eg ranitidine, famotidine) and others more potent (eg omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole).
3.Surgery is usually done in severe cases. Surgical treatment aims to reconstruct an anti-reflux barrier. The most widely accepted surgical technique is fundoplication, which involves bolstering the function of the cardia by wrapping the upper part of the stomach around the lower portion of the esophagus.
